LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Athletics placed first baseman Nick Kurtz on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right thumb capsule sprain, retroactive to July 10, and recalled catcher Brian Serven from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced.

Kurtz’s IL placement is the second of his career. He previously missed time with a strained left hip flexor in late May 2025.

On the season, Kurtz is hitting .266 (89-for-334) with 15 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 66 RBI and 76 walks. He ranks second in the majors in walks and on-base percentage (.405), tied for fifth in RBI, 12th in OPS (.902) and tied for 12th in go-ahead RBI.

Kurtz was named the American League All-Star starting first baseman in Philadelphia, his first career All-Star selection. He also won AL Player of the Month for May, his fourth career monthly award. Kurtz won the 2025 unanimous AL Rookie of the Year award.

Serven returns to the A’s for his second stint this season. He was selected on July 4 and started at catcher July 5 against Miami, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

In 55 games with Triple-A Las Vegas this season, Serven is hitting .308 with 18 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 41 RBI. Across parts of four MLB seasons, he is a career .188 hitter with nine doubles, one triple, six home runs and 20 RBI.
