LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Local Las Vegas athletes of all ages will march alongside women from the 2026 Winter Olympics.

For months, FOX5 has told you about SHE Weekend, an effort started by rapper Flavor Flav to lift up women across sports. The invite of the Women’s Hockey Team to Las Vegas after their gold medal win grew into a several-day event to celebrate female women athletes, sponsored by MGM Resorts, The Gist and other organizations.

Thursday at 8 p.m., female Winter Olympians and community organizations will march down the Las Vegas Strip to Toshiba Plaza, where athletes will get a performance by Public Enemy and other performers.

Local organization Girls On the Run will march alongside those athletes.

“What we do is empower girls in 3rd through 8th grade through a program that teaches them social-emotional skills that they need to accomplish any hard goal, and we use running to teach that,” said Kate McLaughlin, executive director.

More than a dozen girls and coaches will march in the parade.

“They deserve the recognition, and a single weekend in a single town is, frankly, not enough, but it’s a start,” McLaughlin said.

The young athletes are excited for the chance to march on the Strip.

“I can’t wait to see the friends I made in Girls on the Run and see all the smiles on people’s faces whenever they see all the women athletes who have made records,” said Aziza, one of the athletes.
