LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Nevada Department of Transportation is beginning a pavement improvement project along a busy stretch of Rainbow Boulevard that will include overnight lane restrictions and safety changes at several intersections.

NDOT said the Rainbow Boulevard (SR 595) Pavement Improvement Project will cover about five miles of roadway from just north of Tropicana Avenue to Silverstream Avenue. Work will include pavement improvements, upgraded traffic signals and Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades.

As part of the project, NDOT said it plans to change median access at three intersections — Nara Vista Way, Via Olivero Way and Del Rey Avenue — citing traffic data and crash history. The changes are intended to reduce collision risks and improve traffic flow, the agency said.

Initial traffic restrictions are scheduled nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, beginning Sunday, July 26, through Friday, Aug. 14.

During those hours, Rainbow Boulevard will be intermittently reduced to one lane in each direction between Tropicana and Silverstream, with closures shifting as work progresses. NDOT said no work is planned on Friday or Saturday evenings.

Construction is expected to continue through summer 2027, weather permitting. NDOT said the speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph through work zones during active construction.

Drivers are urged to use caution in work zones and consider alternate routes. NDOT said it works with Waze to share information about planned restrictions and noted schedules may change due to weather or other factors.
