LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Bolden Area Command hosted a community event Friday called “Splash with the Badge” at the Bill and Lillie Heinrich YMCA near Meadows Mall.

Families were treated to free food and had access to the pool and water playground. Other organizations were also on hand to provide community resources for families.

Officers say events build community bonds

Capt. Kurt McKenzie of the LVMPD Bolden Area Command said the event gives officers a chance to connect with residents outside of a traditional law enforcement context.

“It gives them an opportunity to talk to us on a level that’s not a police officer and a citizen. It’s just a person-to-person,” McKenzie said. “And that’s what makes it, and that’s what ties everything in, and that’s the kind of glue that holds us together.”
