LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas metro police say 69-year-old Lina Pigill was found unresponsive in her home near Charleston and Eastern on Feb. 4 around 11:45 p.m. She died from her injuries on February 23.
“My mom invited somebody in at 11:00 at night, invited somebody in for coffee, and while she was making the coffee, she was shot in the back of the head,” said the victim’s son, Raymond Garcia.
Garcia said the person walked out of the home and didn’t steal anything, although police have not confirmed those details.
Garcia said at first, his mom thought she’d fallen and hit her head. It wasn’t until she got to the hospital that they realized she’d been shot.
“When they asked her, ‘Who did you invite over? Who came by?’ She specifically told them more than one time, it was the blonde lady, my neighbor,” said Garcia.
Police are now asking for the public’s help with the investigation, but they have not released any description of a suspect. Pigill died from her injuries almost three weeks after the shooting.
“A death in the family is very hard for anybody, but a murder in the family is absolutely devastating,” said Garcia.
Garcia said Pigill was a retired security guard and enjoyed living in the 55 and older community.
“I know she liked it there. She had a lot of friends, a lot of people saying, ‘Oh, she would always invite me over for coffee,’ which is what led to her death, unfortunately,” he said.
Police have not released any suspect information in this case.
FOX5 reached out to LVMPD for more details on the investigation, but we’re still waiting for a response from the homicide unit.
