LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — With school starting in less than two weeks, doctors are urging parents to reconsider allowing children to ride e-bikes and e-scooters.
Sunrise Children’s Hospital has added a pediatric neurosurgeon — a board-certified specialist who treats complex brain and spine injuries in children. Dr. Taryn Bragg said the hospital is seeing more trauma cases tied to electric scooters and e-bikes.

Speed and size factors
Higher speeds, slower reaction times and the lighter weight of children can turn a simple fall into a life-changing injury, Bragg said.
“It’s become increasingly prominent in the community just because of the number of children that these devices — they’re able to obtain these devices,” Bragg said. “And kids, there’s a variety of reasons why they’re injured more on electric scooters or electric bicycles because of the speed at which they can accelerate to.”
What parents can do
Bragg urges families to consider a more protective helmet than a basic bike helmet. She also recommends long clothing and other protective gear to help prevent road rash and fractures.
