LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Hundreds of children in the Las Vegas Valley experiencing housing instability or homelessness received free backpacks and school supplies Friday at an event organized by the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
The nonprofit held its “Feel Good Friday Back to School Extravaganza” at the Whitney Recreation Center, distributing supplies to 500 children in need.

What was given away
Each backpack was filled with classroom essentials including pencils, crayons, notebooks and folders. The event also featured giveaways of clothing, shoes and other items.
‘Things are tight’
Organizers said demand for the event was high, with families arriving hours before it began.
“We have people that have been lining up at 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning, like they’re waiting to go to a concert because it’s so important for the parents and for those young people to get some of these critical supplies,” said Arash Ghafoori, CEO of NPHY. “Things are tight, budgets are tight. There’s a lot of people that infringe on homelessness or [are] experiencing it.”
Weekly resource program
Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth holds Feel Good Friday every week, providing young people in need with critical resources, food and hygiene supplies.
