LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Emergency paving issues have forced county officials to extend round-the-clock lane restrictions on Nellis Boulevard through Friday afternoon, continuing major traffic delays for East Las Vegas commuters.
The Clark County Water Reclamation District announced that the ongoing manhole rehabilitation and sewer bypass work at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Twain Avenue, originally scheduled to wrap up earlier this month, has been extended due to unforeseen circumstances encountered during the paving process.
Northbound and southbound traffic on Nellis Boulevard will remain restricted from three lanes down to just a single lane in each direction at the Twain Avenue intersection.
The 24/7 restrictions, which first went into effect July 13, are now anticipated to be lifted on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

“The work currently being conducted on Nellis Blvd. at Twain Ave. has been extended to this Friday at 5:00 p.m. due to unforeseen circumstances during paving,” water district officials confirmed. “We anticipate the closure will be lifted on Friday, August 21st at 5 p.m.”
In addition to the single-lane bottlenecks, select turn restrictions remain active to accommodate the work zone.
Drivers cannot make left turns from southbound Nellis Boulevard onto East Twain Avenue, and left turns from East Twain Avenue onto Nellis Boulevard also remain blocked.
The ongoing utility work involves a complex sewer bypass as well as the complete removal and replacement of the aging sewer line.
District officials advise commuters to allow significant extra travel time, practice caution when driving through the active work zone, or bypass the intersection entirely by utilizing alternate north-south routes such as Boulder Highway or Lamb Boulevard.
