LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada Task Force 1 was deployed Sunday night under a State of Nevada activation to support response and recovery efforts from the Hawk Fire in Washoe County.
The team is one of 28 Federal Urban Search and Rescue teams and normally deploys to natural disasters nationwide.
Team composition
The Clark County Fire Department is the sponsoring agency for Nevada Task Force 1. The team includes members from all Las Vegas valley fire departments, along with doctors and structural engineers from the community.
The team deployed as a mission-ready package to support canine-assisted searches, with two live find dogs and four human remains detection dogs.
Nevada Task Force 1 is ready to support Washoe County and expects to begin conducting searches Monday morning, continuing through the week.
Hawk Fire details
The Hawk Fire has grown rapidly since starting Saturday and is currently over 15,000 acres with 0% containment. Multiple structures have been damaged or destroyed, and thousands of people have been evacuated.
