LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford held a news conference Wednesday to outline how he would regulate data centers if elected Nevada’s next governor.
Ford’s proposal
Ford held the news conference in a neighborhood near Jones and Blue Diamond, an area near some data centers. He said data centers would need to bring their own water or coolant and pay for their own electricity. Ford also wants to pause tax abatements and create bans on evaporative cooling.
“We don’t have to wait. We have to continue to be proactive. And this plan that is going to limit data centers from using our water is a proactive approach to ensure that we can continue to conserve and preserve water for actual human beings,” Ford said.

Lombardo campaign response
Gov. Lombardo’s campaign sent FOX5 a statement responding to Ford’s comments. The statement said that after spending 420 days out of state, Ford is trying to blame others for laws he helped author.
The statement continued: “The fact is, Ford sponsored Nevada’s data center tax breaks with no guardrails on water or energy use. None.”
