LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is encouraging residents and visitors to plan for heavy traffic and adjusted transit service over the Labor Day weekend. RTC buses will operate on a Sunday schedule with reduced frequency on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

Traffic delays expected on I-15
Heavy traffic is anticipated along the I-15 corridor as motorists travel between Southern California and Las Vegas for the three-day weekend.
Based on historical travel patterns, the heaviest delays are expected on southbound I-15 to the Nevada-California state line on Monday, Sept. 7, particularly between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Travel times through the area may increase significantly during this period.
Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid southbound I-15 at the state line during peak travel hours and consider beginning their trip earlier or later in the day. Travelers can visit Seeing Orange for real-time traffic conditions, construction information and traffic alerts before heading out.
While RTC does not have access to California traffic data, historically, heavy northbound traffic has been observed from Southern California into Las Vegas at the end of holiday weekends. Motorists returning to Las Vegas on Monday are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Whether traveling across the valley, heading to the airport, or returning home after the long weekend, planning ahead can help reduce delays and leave more time to enjoy the final days of summer.
Transit options during the holiday
RTC operates 39 transit routes that connect riders to destinations throughout the community. Riders can plan and pay for transit trips using RTC’s rideRTC app or tap to pay with a debit or credit card, smartphone wallet, or smart watch.
Passengers are also encouraged to check the RTC Alerts and Detours page for the latest information on service changes, detours and temporary stop closures.
Airport travel alternative
For those flying over the Labor Day weekend, RTC offers an alternative to driving and airport parking. Travelers can park free for up to seven days at the South Strip Transit Terminal and take routes, including Route 108 – Paradise and the recently launched RED LINE – Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit, directly to Harry Reid International Airport.
