LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The new police chief for the Clark County School District Police Department shares more on increased enforcement outside schools since the new school year began.
Chief Jeff Clark, a long-time leader within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, fourth-generation Nevadan and Cimarron-Memorial High graduate shared more about traffic safety as a major focus.
“The first three weeks of this year compared to the first three weeks of last year, our traffic stops are up over 40 percent, our traffic citations are up just under 40 percent, and our traffic accidents are down almost 15 percent. That has come from the clear focus and direction that I have given to the officers and the support,” Clark said.
“Every stop we do, every citation we issue, and every car we tow, you potentially are saving someone’s life,” Clark said.
The School Zone Bill took effect across Nevada on July 1. More than 420 kids were struck by cars along their commutes to or from school in the 2025-2026 school year.
Clark urges parents to be careful when giving their child an e-device, and help them make sure they know how to ride it responsibly.
“Parents need to be very careful in giving those devices to their kids. You need to be responsible with it. I look at it no different than gun ownership: you need to be a responsible gun owner. We need our kids to be responsible e-device riders,” he said.
