LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Clark County School District Board of Trustees voted Thursday to open more pre-K spots districtwide.
CCSD proposed a $2 million plan that would add more full-day pre-K programs and broaden access for families looking for a preschool.
District leaders said new state grants helped them open 86 additional “Nevada Ready” classrooms this year and create pre-K space at 28 schools, including five high school campuses.
CCSD now runs 396 full-day and 269 half-day pre-K programs.

Income rules limit access
Staff told the board that strict income rules on state grants still shut some families out. District staff said eligibility under current state grants is tied tightly to income thresholds, and they want more flexible funding to expand full-day pre-K across the valley.
District staff said the goal is to increase the footprint of the district’s premier pre-K program for CCSD families, giving more children access to high-quality pre-K so they enter kindergarten ready to learn, grow and thrive.
Grant money is paying for new curriculum, coaching for teachers, family classes, and pre-K space at the 28 schools, including the five high school campuses.
One strategy places pre-K classrooms inside high schools so teens in teacher academy programs can work with young children while opening more neighborhood pre-K seats.
