LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Construction will soon begin on a major expansion of the I-215 Northern Beltway Trail, moving Southern Nevada closer to a seamless regional trail system stretching across the Las Vegas Valley.
City officials will gather Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Aviary Park to break ground on a 2.7-mile trail extension. The project adds to North Las Vegas’ network of more than 70 miles of public paths and serves as the initial leg of an ambitious long-term corridor that will eventually link North Las Vegas to Henderson along a 45-mile route.

The upcoming first phase will run adjacent to Interstate 215, spanning from North Decatur Boulevard east to Clayton Street. Construction on this segment is slated for completion in late 2027. Along with a paved multi-use pathway, crews will install trail lighting, native landscaping, wayfinding markers, and interpretive signage.
Additional segments are already moving forward behind the initial construction. Phase 1A will carry the trail another 1.8 miles from Clayton Street to North 5th Street, with engineering designs currently 90% finished.
A second phase, scheduled to begin design work later this year, will extend the path another 1.25 miles along the south side of the I-215 beltway from North 5th Street to Losee Road.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 23 at Aviary Park, 6750 Aviary Way.
