LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Regional Transportation Commission is launching a week-long effort to raise awareness of what life is like without a car.
The RTC kicked off its “Week Without Driving” at the Bonneville Transit Center Wednesday. The push starts Thursday and runs through next Thursday, Oct. 8.
People are encouraged to try another way of getting around. That could include walking, biking or using public transportation.
“I’m not asking you to give up your car for an entire week, but just for one trip, choose one different way of getting to your destination, and consider the challenges that others face every single day,” said Willie Chalmers III, president and Founder of Las Vegas for Better Transit.

Leaders say with gas reaching record highs, now is a great time to leave the car in the garage, if only for a little while.
“I just filled up my poor little car, 10 gallons, 60 bucks. I’ve never, ever spent that kind of money,” said Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom. “Honestly, if we could figure out a way to get out of our cars, we’re going to make our lives a lot easier and have a lot more money in our pocket.”
Those interested in trying public transportation can use an interactive online guide to help them get around.
Residents can also enter a raffle for a 30-day bus pass by sharing their experience on social media.
“Week Without Driving” also kicks off the RTC’s “Biketoberfest 2026,” which includes community rides, bike clinics and more.
