LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Henderson Paseo Verde Little League team, this year’s U.S. Little League Baseball World Series champions, will light the Al Davis Memorial Torch before Sunday’s Raiders–Bills game at Allegiant Stadium.
The team earned its spot on youth baseball’s biggest stage with an undefeated run through the Mountain Region tournament, securing a trip to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
In the U.S. Championship Game, Paseo Verde defeated Ohio 12-2 to claim the U.S. Little League World Series title.
The team now joins a distinguished list of people who have been given the honor of lighting the Al Davis Memorial Torch, a tradition that began in 2011 with the late John Madden. The late First Lady of Raider Nation, Carol Davis, was the first to light the torch in Las Vegas before the Raiders’ inaugural game at Allegiant Stadium in Sept. 21, 2020.
Since the tradition started in Oakland in 2011, Raiders’ alumni, celebrities and fans have been selected to light the torch before each home game. The Al Davis Memorial Torch pays tribute to Davis’s legacy as the Raiders’ longtime owner, Pro Football Hall of Famer, former AFL coach and commissioner, and architect of the team’s “Commitment to Excellence.”
