LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The family of Reynaldo “Rey” Rodis II has identified him as the man killed in a robbery attempt at an east Las Vegas business. Rodis, 45, was shot and killed when police say three armed suspects tried to steal from a business near Pecos Road and Flamingo Road. The suspects remain on the run, and Rodis’s family is calling for justice.

“I was terrified,” one friend who saw the shooting unfold said. “Because we thought that we were going to be next.”

Loved ones describes final moments

Friends of Rodis said they were present when he died. “We were there when he took his last breath,” one said. “I’d seen everything. We never left him.”

Police say Rodis tried to stop the robbery when the three-armed suspects shot him. Friends say those suspects are seen on camera ransacking the shop.

Taj and KT said they watched the incident unfold. “I kept telling him, don’t move, don’t move,” one said. “And then he was ready to leave. He jumped and tried to stop him at the last minute. He was a fighter and he wasn’t going down without a fight.”

Family seeks accountability

Rodis’s family called his death a senseless murder that took his life too soon. “We are hopeful that the suspects will be apprehended, you know, that they will pay for what they did to him,” his sister Rochielle Jocson said.

Known in the boxing community

Rodis was known in the Las Vegas boxing scene as a promoter and owner of Red Boxing International. Those close to him said he owned several businesses, including the one where he was killed. “It was a meditation place,” one friend said. “It was a place to be quiet, not to be like that.”

As the search for the suspects continues, friends and family are gathering every night until his service to hold a prayer vigil.

His sister Rochielle said Rodis will be remembered as a great uncle, brother and someone who put others first. “He walks with purpose. He’s a great visionary. He would always take care of everybody. Anything that he plans, he doesn’t plan for himself. He plans to take care of everybody else.”
