LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Detectives have arrested a man in connection with a fatal 2021 shooting in Boulder City, police announced.

John Powell Morgan III was taken into custody Oct. 24, 2026, at a car dealership in Henderson on an arrest warrant charging him with one count of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon, according to the Boulder City Police Department.

The charge stems from a May 31, 2021, incident in which Scott Dingman was allegedly shot by Morgan in the roadway of Fairway Drive in Boulder City, authorities said.

Boulder City police investigators reopened their review of the case after receiving new information in 2025. In April 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at Morgan’s residence, recovering evidence that supported further investigation, according to police.

Over the following year, investigators gathered additional information that established probable cause for Morgan’s arrest, police said.

Morgan was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on the open murder charge, authorities said.
