LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for distributing, transporting, and possessing child sexual abuse material, federal authorities announced.
The sentence was handed down to James Donovan, matching the federal government’s recommendation.
Donovan previously pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography, one count of transportation of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.
According to court documents, Donovan distributed child sexual abuse material at least 11 times across users and channels on the social media application Discord.
Court records also showed he used the internet to transport material to an Amazon Cloud account.
Federal investigators found that Donovan possessed approximately 70 printed images and more than 50,000 digital images and videos of child sexual abuse material.
Court documents stated the collection depicted sadistic or masochistic conduct, violence, infants and toddlers, and prepubescent minors under age 12.

In addition to the prison term, Donovan must pay restitution to victims and register as a sex offender where he resides, works, and attends school under the federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
The FBI investigated the case, and the prosecution was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
