LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Harry Reid International Airport broke ground Tuesday on a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Station, marking an investment in emergency response infrastructure funded by $23.1 million in federal funding.
Members of Nevada’s congressional delegation joined airport officials for the groundbreaking. The project will replace Station 13, located on the LAS airfield, one of the oldest stations in the Clark County Fire Department after serving the airport for more than 40 years.

“Harry Reid International is an essential part of Southern Nevada’s economy, welcoming millions of visitors each year and connecting our community to the rest of the world,” said Sen. Jacky Rosen. “Thanks to this funding we secured, Harry Reid International Airport will have the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities necessary to continue their great work and ensure that every traveler who flies into or out of the airport is safe.”
Officials said the new facility will support growing air travel demand while maintaining response capabilities, operational readiness and safety for passengers, employees and operations.
“Our airport supports a destination that hosts some of the world’s biggest events,” said James C. Chrisley, Clark County director of aviation. “With that level of activity, having modern safety infrastructure in place is not optional – it’s fundamental to operating a world-class airport.”
The 28,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for completion in early 2028. It will include nine apparatus bays, two more than the current station, along with enhanced training space, individual dorm rooms and modern paging and alert technology.
“I’m grateful to the Nevada congressional delegation and the Clark County Department of Aviation for their continued investment in the safety and effectiveness of our emergency response operations,” said Billy Samuels, Clark County fire chief. “This new facility will help ensure our firefighters remain prepared for every call and have the resources and equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
