LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Rideshare drivers are expressing their concerns as a roadway excavation and paving operation is closing down most lanes on Las Vegas Boulevard.
Starting Sunday at 9 p.m. until Thursday at 3 p.m., the operation will reduce Las Vegas Boulevard to one lane between Park Avenue and Harmon
FOX5 spoke to one rideshare driver, Adilen, who said she had not heard the news yet.
“Oh wow,” she said. “I don’t believe that we [her team] have heard about it. We didn’t know.”
Other rideshare drivers Sunday also said they weren’t aware of the change, and they don’t plan on seeing it for themselves.
“What’s probably going to happen is we’re going to make one ride for two hours, and they’re not going to pay us enough to be dealing with that, so basically we leave to other places, you know?” said Adilen. “I’m going to avoid it. 100 percent. I’ll be off the Strip to help the locals.”
Several drivers at the rideshare waiting lot said the same thing: they didn’t know about these new lane closures on the Strip. Also, they would usually hear about these traffic changes after they happen from other drivers on the lot or in their group chats.
“We just get in contact with each other, and we let everyone know where we are. It’s good. I’m grateful for that. If not, it would be a mess I believe,” said Adilen.
This closure is not part of preparations for Formula 1, but it’s still a reminder for many Las Vegas rideshare drivers of what’s to come when this year’s F1 race rolls onto the Strip.
“I did not do it last time, and this year I don’t know. Probably the third year up, that’s when I’m going to be able to do it because it’s just too much,” said Adilen. “I’m going to stay there for 3 hours, 4 hours in the traffic. It’s not happening.”
