LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – 15 boats were damaged or destroyed in a fire at a Lake Mead marina this weekend, and two docks suffered damage.

According to the National Park Service, the fire broke out at Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, and once crews with several agencies arrived, it took hours for multiple agencies to contain it.

Witnesses told FOX5 that they were forced to evacuate their boats when the fire started, and some did not have time to get their personal belongings. Some left without knowing whether their boat was burned or spared.

Officials reported 15 boats damaged or destroyed in the blaze.

The Marina notified boat owners whether their boat was damaged or safe. Owners came back in the morning to inspect the damage.

The Marina remains open to the public, but a partial closure has been ordered for the harbor’s R and I docks. Additionally, visitors are urged to exercise caution when accessing Hemenway Harbor and open portions of Las Vegas Boat Harbor due to potential safety concerns.

The Marina posted this statement on Facebook:

The Marina said NPS is still investigating the incident. Boaters said caution tape restricts them from accessing the area where the fire happened.
