LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Aviators defeated the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, 12-6, in the opener of the three-game series before a crowd of 4,438 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Las Vegas, winners of three straight games, improved to 4-3 in the second half (41-41 overall). Oklahoma City dropped to 1-6 (41-41).
The Aviators broke the 6-6 with six runs in the eighth inning. Catcher Yohel Pozo (3-for-4, double, 2 RBI) hit a solo home run to break the tie. Center fielder Seth Brown was 3-for-5, two home runs, (grand slam in the 3rd inning; two-run HR in the 8th), 6 RBI. Shortstop Nick Allen was 2-for-5, two doubles, run scored and first baseman Carlos Perez was 2-for-4, walk, solo home run, two runs scored.
Las Vegas right-hander J.T. Ginn pitched 4.2 innings in the no decision. He allowed 6 hits, 6 runs, walked 5 and struck out 3 on 93 pitches (48 strikes).
Oklahoma City shortstop Trey Sweeney was 2-for-4, walk, two-run home run, two runs scored. Center fielder James Outman was 2-for-4, double, walk, solo home run.
Game eight of the nine-game homestand is Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. A post-game fireworks show is scheduled.
The finale of the homestand is Wednesday, July 3 at 6:05 p.m. The traditional fireworks extravaganza will be presented!
