LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Clark County School District trustee is threatening to sue the board over a controversy involving a shirt she wore to a meeting two weeks ago.
At a regular meeting on Aug. 13, trustee Lorena Biassotti wore a shirt from XX-XY Athletics, a brand that says its goal is to protect women’s sports and spaces. Biassotti posted a photo of herself in the shirt, alongside fellow trustee Lydia Dominguez, quickly sparking backlash online. Critics called the shirt anti-transgender and accused Biassotti of spouting hate.

Board president raises conduct policy
At Thursday night’s meeting, board president Emily Stevens introduced a discussion item for the purpose of reminding Biassotti about board conduct policies. She pointed to a potential violation of the board’s communication policy, while also acknowledging that trustees have a right to violate those policies, though not without consequences.
“I’m not, in any way, telling a trustee what they can and cannot say,” Stevens said.
Biassotti said the allegation that she violated board policy is false, and read a statement defending her choice to wear the shirt, saying it was an expression of a sincerely held religious belief.
“I have the right to express my views. I have the right to disagree,” Biassotti said. “And I have the right as a woman and an elected representative to advocate for boundaries I believe protect women and children without having that expression automatically characterized as bullying or harmful conduct.”
Public comment focuses on shirt
Public comment was dedicated almost entirely to the issue of the shirt, with some parents defending Biassotti while others claimed the shirt made some students feel unsafe.
“Calling that hate, targeting a shirt that states chromosomes, and organizing pressure to silence an elected trustee is viewpoint control,” one commenter said. “That is a line this board must not cross.”
“For a trustee not to keep their beliefs to themselves is a slap to our parents, our teachers, and our children in the face,” another parent said. “It is deplorable and disgusting.”
Trustee announces lawsuit plan
Biassotti herself took the podium during public comment, accusing the board of trying to silence her.
“I am not your employee. I am not appointed by you. And I will not surrender my constitutional rights to satisfy political disagreements,” Biassotti said.
She then announced that she and Dominguez plan to sue the board for a violation of their First Amendment rights.
“A board policy cannot override the First Amendment,” Biassotti said.
FOX5 has reached out to the CCSD Board of School Trustees for comment about the threatened lawsuit.
