LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Several Las Vegas high schools added crossing guards to their campuses Monday as part of an expanded city program aimed at improving student pedestrian safety.
The City of Las Vegas announced last month that five additional schools would receive crossing guards for the current school year, bringing the total number of covered high schools to nine.

Bonanza High School among new sites
Bonanza High School is one of the campuses receiving a crossing guard for the first time. Clark County School District Superintendent Jhone Ebert visited the school Monday to observe the crossing guard and monitor driver compliance.
“I’ve asked the students, you know, what do you think? They are really happy. Yes, they need to wait on the sidewalk. But now they know that they are protected with the crossing guard,” Ebert said. “She’s doing a phenomenal job with the traffic.”
Ebert said both students and drivers are adjusting to the new presence on campus.
“The drivers around the school, they’re not used to having crossing guards. So, the kids are getting used to it. The drivers are getting used to it. Everybody’s all in to make sure our kids are safe,” she said.
District responds to 432 reported student incidents
The Clark County School District increased its focus on traffic safety after 432 students were reported hit by vehicles during the last school year.
