LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Boulder City officials are urging residents to immediately stop releasing trapped rodents and other pests onto public property following an incident at Veterans Memorial Park over the weekend.
The city took to social media Tuesday to issue the warning after a park visitor reported seeing someone carry a cage into the park, open it, and let several live rats loose.
Under Nevada law, rats and mice are designated as “vertebrate pests,” allowing authorities to manage populations to protect public health and property.

Officials emphasized that releasing them into shared spaces, including city parks, creates serious health hazards through disease transmission to humans and pets, as well as destructive property damage.
Anyone who catches rodents on their property should reach out to the Southern Nevada Health District to learn safe disposal and control steps.
