LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A California woman is dead after drowning in Lake Havasu on Sunday, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 2 p.m., the MCSO Division of Boating Safety responded to the area near The Islander RV on Lake Havasu about a possible drowning.

Officers determined that an adult female – identified as Cynthia Marin, 49, of La Mesa, California – had jumped from the boat to go swimming when her improperly secured life jacket came off. Marin then “began to panic then went below the surface of the water,” according to MCSO.

Rescue divers were deployed in the area, but were unable to initially locate the victim. A Careflight helicopter, side scan sonar technology, and additional divers were also deployed to assist in the search.

The victim was located at a depth of 42 feet in 59-degree water.

“This investigation is ongoing,” officers said in a release.
