LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It’s Super Bowl week in Las Vegas, with the big game now only days away.
Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49′ers landed in the host city Sunday, and FOX5 was the only station to catch the 49′ers checking at their Lake Las Vegas hotel Sunday night as their fans cheered outside.
Having both teams here is a true sign that the countdown to kickoff is on.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Niners arrived within an hour of each other. The Chiefs landed a little after five Sunday night. They deplaned, boarded buses, and were whisked off to the Westin Lake Las Vegas.
The 49′ers got into town a little after six. They’ll stay at Hilton Lake Las Vegas.
Both teams were greeted with the Vegas touch you’d expect – showgirls, a group of Elvis impersonators, and a DJ blaring music. For the teams, this is a business trip. For everyone else, it’s a party.
Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Authority President, and Super Bowl Host Committee Member, Steve Hill tells FOX5 the city’s first Super Bowl will be spectacular because the Valley and its residents are built to roll out the red carpet.
“This city knows how to do events at this scale and can do them like no city in the world. There’s no place that treat this many people like VIP’s for an entire week and do it because we do it every week. So I’m completely confident that Las Vegas is going to step up and make this happen. It’s our week to show up and we’re going to do it.”
Monday will be a big night for both teams. It’s Opening Night at Allegiant Stadium. The event was formerly known as Media Day. Players and coaches from both the Chiefs and 49′ers, will meet with reporters.
The Chief’s session will go from 5 – 6 pm, the Niners from 7 – 8 pm, and FOX5 will have coverage from beginning to end.
