LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 6-year-old boy was critically injured Monday morning when a piece of asphalt fell from a vehicle and crashed through the windshield of an SUV.

The crash occurred just before 7:45 a.m. Monday on South Durango Drive, south of Peace Way in Spring Valley.

According to investigators, an SUV driving north on Durango Drive was struck by a large piece of asphalt that had dislodged from another vehicle.

Police said the asphalt broke through the SUV’s windshield and injured a 6-year-old boy in the rear seat. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The SUV driver was not impaired, police said. The crash is under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s collision investigation section.
