LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – If you’re just getting around to taking down your Christmas tree, the City of Henderson is ready to help you recycle it.

The city announced that Christmas tree recycling will be offered at 10 local locations through January 18.

Recycling your tree helps ensure the sustainability of our community by saving valuable landfill space. When chipped into mulch, cut trees become valuable organic material used in landscaping projects that help conserve soil moisture and keep plants healthy.

We put them through a chipper. It makes a giant pile of wood chips,” explained Preston Goodman, Municipal Forester for the City of Henderson. “We put those into the tree wells to help retain moisture around the base of the tree and suppress weeds. It’s really good for the trees, and we live in the desert, so we can use all the help we can get on the trees.”

Fresh trees with no flocking can be brought to the locations below. Artificial trees are not accepted.
