LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County commissioners have approved a proposal to speed up application processing times for short-term rental licenses.
The ordinance will end the lottery system and set a 45-day timeframe for review. Those who have been fined by the county could also still be eligible for a license and a path to become legal.
Since 2023, hundreds of homeowners have waited due to a backlog from the lottery system, and no new homeowners have been able to apply since. In spring 2025, county officials disclosed they were processing just six applications a week.

In a presentation to commissioners, Deputy District Attorney Jeff Rogan gave an update on the backlog, sharing that only a small amount remains.
“We had 830 complete applications three years ago,” Rogan said. “We’ve had 242 approved licenses. We now have 47 pending licenses as of today.”
The changes will go into effect in two weeks. Applications will be accepted in December, with processing starting in January.
