LAS VEGAS (FOX5) —A Valley faith-based nonprofit is celebrating a full-circle homecoming with the opening of a brand-new learning center in Las Vegas’ Historic Westside.
The grand opening milestone marks a long-awaited return for Club Christ, an organization dedicated to providing local youth with academic resources, mentorship, and a safe environment.

A full-circle homecoming
For Club Christ, returning to this specific neighborhood holds deep historical significance.
“Our first center we ever had was in the Westside, over at MLK and Carey,” said Joshua Vandusen the Executive Director for Club Christ. “They tore down those apartments. So really, for Club Christ, it was a full-circle moment to come back home almost and open our fifth center here.”
Establishing a permanent presence in the area was not an easy task. Representatives say they searched 15 different apartment complexes before finding the right location. To identify neighborhoods where their services were needed most, the nonprofit says they partnered with the Metropolitan Police Department for community outreach.
Safe learning and literacy support
The new facility replaces old computer rooms with fully renovated classrooms and social areas, complete with new vinyl flooring and fresh carpets.
The center focuses primarily on supporting elementary school students with their homework and a specialized literacy program.
“Our program director, Joyce, worked in the school district for over 30 years,” said Vandusen. “She’s a reading specialist, so we do individualized reading plans for each kid.”
For teenagers, the nonprofit expands its offerings to include leadership development programs and optional Bible study.
Community impact and roots
The program’s focus on safety, learning, and self-esteem has a proven track record. Myzaveon Riley joined Club Christ in the fifth grade and grew with the program over the years. Today, he serves as the vice president of the nonprofit’s board.
“I loved it from the very first day entering in, where I felt love and I felt at home,” Riley said. “I felt a sense of security.”
Club Christ was originally founded 20 years ago as a class project by a University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) student. Today, the organization operates five learning centers across the Las Vegas Valley.
