LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The College of Southern Nevada has been selected to receive nearly $3 million in federal funding to expand artificial intelligence education, bolster technology programs, and prepare students for high-demand careers across Southern Nevada, the college announced Wednesday.

The five-year NEXUS Workforce Initiative, budgeted at $2,998,756, will establish a NEXUS Center for Excellence and fund computing and information technology programs at the institution.

NEXUS—short for Nevada’s Emerging Workforce eXcellence through Upskilling and Student Success—aligns classroom instruction with regional workforce demands while giving students clearer paths to earn college credentials.

Under the initiative, CSN plans to roll out at least 12 artificial intelligence courses and nine transition pathways to help students move from noncredit workforce instruction into credit-bearing college programs.

The project also includes a Faculty Fellows Program that will provide AI-focused professional development to 120 faculty members, increasing the college’s instructional capacity in emerging fields.

To support retention and completion, two dedicated advisers will assist technology students with academic planning and tracking progress toward credentials.

Officials said the initiative will also foster closer ties between classroom coursework and industry demands in fields including cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data analytics.
