LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The U.S. Postal Service says it’s ready for the 2026 holidays, building on last year’s improved delivery performance.

According to officials, in 2025, mail and packages were delivered in an average of two and a half days, down from 2.8 days in 2024. USPS says they credit new technology and logistics planning for the gain.

With volume jumping about 40 percent from October 1 to December 31, USPS says it has:

  • Added 673 package sorters in six years, including 164 this year
  • Hired just over 10,000 seasonal workers, down from 40,000 a few years ago due to a more stable workforce
  • Launched a faster package tracking system
  • Opened 182 sorting and delivery centers and other facilities since 2022
  • Deployed more than 45,000 new delivery vehicles in three years

“The PostalService performed very well during last year’s holidayseason, and we are even better prepared this year for the upcoming peak mailing and shipping season,” Postmaster General David Steiner said.

“We have been preparing all year for this peak season, and we have enough capacity to handle whatever comes our way.”

USPS adds that they will continue to prioritize morning parcel delivery, extended hours at busy post offices, and easy returns through 31,000 retail locations, self-service kiosks and free carrier pickup.
