According to police, Chavez admitted to drinking three michelada beverages and using a THC vape pen at a swap meet around noon. The crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m. at Windmill Lane and Las Vegas Boulevard on Sept. 6, 2025.

Police investigators say Chavez blew through a red light and crashed into a car turning left, before hitting two more cars and injuring a dozen people.

One of the victims in the crash was a 37-year-old woman named Rebekah, who was 28 weeks pregnant at the time. Police say her unborn baby later died at a nearby hospital.

Based on established LVMPD guidelines, Chavez will not be facing a murder charge related to the death of the baby.

Rebekah’s 9-year-old son was also critically injured in the crash, but was able to recover and reunite with his mother in the hospital.

Chavez is due in court to receive his sentence at 9:30 a.m.
