LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Emails show that the shooter in a Summerlin law office shooting requested multiple times that his ex-daughter-in-law not be present at a deposition that ended in three people dead.

Joe Houston was representing his son, Dylan Houston, in a child custody-related deposition on April 8 with his ex-wife, Ashley Prince. Ashley’s husband, Dennis Prince, was also representing her. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said Joe Houston shot and killed Ashley and Dennis before turning the gun on himself. His son Dylan was not present at the hearing.

Katherine Houston, Joe’s wife, was set to testify in the deposition. According to emails sent starting April 1, Joe Houston asked Dennis Prince that Ashley not be present at the deposition, saying he felt Ashley had harassed Katherine. Dennis replied only 22 minutes later, saying he didn’t agree to the request.

Two days later, Joe requested Ashley not be present again.

“The reason I asked Ashley not to be at my wife’s deposition on April 8, 2024, is because the last time she was present, she was abusive to my wife and even [counsel] had to inform her that she is acting inappropriately at the deposition, even though she did not agree that she had actually done the same,” Joe’s email reads. “I REQUEST AGAIN THAT ASHLEY NOT BE PRESENT.”

Joe Houston also said he would object to any questions asked that were asked previously.

“Hopefully you are competent enough to review the transcript of the deposition…and the questions that have already been asked of her…” Joe Houston wrote.

Dennis Prince replied, “Ashley will be present. And, I have a right to follow up on questions previously asked. You need not worry about my competency.”
