LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Mohave County teen is facing terrorism-related charges after posting a threat on social media on Tuesday.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to the Arizona Strip/Beaver Dam area of the county in response to the threat.

A teen was identified who had allegedly made the threat on social media, claiming they were going to “shoot up the school.” When questioned by law enforcement, the teen admitted to making the threat but claimed it was a “dare from a friend” and they had no intentions of committing the act.

The teen was arrested and booked into Mohave County Juvenile Detention Facility on a felony charge of making a terrorist threat.

MCSO said this incident appeared to be isolated but will use additional security measures to monitor area schools.

“The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office takes a zero-tolerance stance towards any person that makes a threat towards our schools or the disruption of an educational institution,” deputies noted in a release.
