RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is suing the Trump administration over the addition of new terms in federal contracts that eliminate DEI from federal contracting.

Ford says the rules impose unclear and confusing requirements on contractors that may depart from antidiscrimination policies followed for decades. He says the new rules threaten severe penalties on federal contractors without adequate notice of what is prohibited.

“Once again the Trump administration has taken unlawful shortcuts to implement chaotic and damaging changes while ignoring the proper legal process,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “Discrimination is already prohibited for work done by federal contractors, and this order does nothing but invite confusion into the process. These changes will leave contractors without clear guidance on how to avoid severe penalties and could create a chilling effect for contractors who are seeking to prevent discrimination.”

The lawsuit challenges an executive order signed by President Trump in March, which directed federal agencies to adopt new contract items prohibiting federal contractors from engaging in DEI activities, which it called racially discriminatory.
