LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Standards of Excellence Academy in Las Vegas celebrated its biggest graduating class Friday morning.

According to Janet Blumen, founder and chief executive officer, 37 students graduated from different programs. The academy offers career and technical education for Southern Nevadans.

The graduates will make their way into the workforce. Four different programs are offered such as: automotive technology, long distance truck driving, commercial driver’s licenses certification, phlebotomy and certified nursing assistants.

Blumen says truck drivers are in huge demand and tend to get hired as soon as they graduate.

The graduates receive industry-recognized credentials to take into their job.

“We have a job developer here who helps them write a resume, learn how to interview, learn job-search techniques and we help them get a job,” said Blumen, founder and chief executive officer of Standards of Excellence Academy.

Blumen says most of the graduates already have jobs secured at employers across the Las Vegas valley at places like Findlay Automotive and the Valley Health System.

”College is not necessarily the right decision for a lot of people when they graduate high school,” she said. “Either because they can’t afford it or they just don’t have the time they can take off.”
