LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Robocalls are rampant. The Federal Trade Commission says they remain consumers’ number one complaint. And yet, the calls keep coming morning, noon, and night. So, how do you get them to stop without turning off your phone? It’s actually pretty simple.
Most smartphones have settings that allow you to block unknown callers. You can find it under the phone section. Once you turn it on, calls from unknown numbers will to straight to voicemail, instead of ringing through.
You can also sign up for the national Do Not Call Registry. It tells telemarketers not to call your number. However, groups that aren’t selling anything aren’t exempt, so you may still get political or charitable callers. And the list can’t stop scammers from getting your number, and trying to rip you off.
Most major wireless carriers also offer a call-blocking service. It can prevent robocalls from coming through, and also allow you to report spam calls and texts.
And finally, if you don’t find those filters strong enough, you can try a third-party app to weed out unwanted calls. Most charge a monthly or annual subscription fee, but some do offer a free basic option.
