LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Harry Reid International Airport is getting a new fire station to replace its 40-year-old facility.
Congressman Steven Horsford joined Clark County and airport leaders at Fire Station 13 Friday to announce $850,000 in federal funding for a new airfield rescue and firefighting station, matched by county and aviation dollars.
Busiest airport cites growing demand
Horsford said the project is critical for one of the nation’s busiest airports, with nearly 55 million passengers last year and about 5,000 emergency calls out of the current station alone.

The new facility will add more bay space, modern alerting systems and about 35,000 square feet designed to get crews out the door faster when seconds count.
Clark County Fire Chief Billy Samuels called the existing 1982 station the oldest in the county and said the upgrade will help protect both firefighters and travelers.
“This is one of the ten busiest airports in the country. More than 50 million visitors come through every year. The new building will allow expansion and capacity, so crews have the equipment they need to respond if there is an emergency,” Horsford said.
Groundbreaking is expected in November, with officials hoping to have the new station up and running in about a year.
