LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – New audio obtained by FOX5 is revealing how firefighters responded when a valley home engulfed in flames began to collapse.
Four people are dead and two others are injured after a home on Langhorne Creek Street collapsed Thursday morning. Clark County firefighters responded to the three-story residence around 4:15 a.m.
Upon arrival, crews attempted to enter the second floor through the front door but were pushed back by the heat. Firefighters would warn dispatchers, “There’s heavy, heavy fire, unable to make entry.”
Two crews were able to enter the garage after cutting a hole through the door but were stopped when the house began to collapse.
A firefighter reported to dispatchers: “We’re trying to make it through the garage… we’re unable to make access. The garage is starting to experience some sort of collapse.”
Dispatchers would later warn other responding firefighters, “We’ve had a collapse of the roof and the second floor. All units stay outside of the collapse zone.”
CCFD reported that the roof, third, and second floors all collapsed into the garage.
“The A/C collapsed all the way down into the garage,” a firefighter relayed. “All floors are compromised.”
The collapse would leave behind a layer of debris that posed a new hazard for firefighters. One firefighter warned, “Be careful there’s a pool in the backyard covered with ash, difficult to see.”
The fire outside the home was extinguished at 4:22 a.m., firefighters would tell dispatchers, “The fire’s knocked down. There still is a burn through the second floor and all the floors burned through so positioned ourselves in a safe area.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
