LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Henderson Animal Shelter is taking precautions after a number of dogs at the facility have shown signs of a respiratory illness.
According to a spokesperson for the City of Henderson, the illness in question only affects dogs, not cats, and it is similar to a common cold in humans. That spokesperson reported that isolation precautions are underway out of an abundance of caution.
This reportedly includes a temporary halt on walks and yard play for the shelter dogs.
“These precautions will be in place until the virus is identified and/or dogs are no longer symptomatic, to minimize the spread to other dogs,” the spokesperson explained. “Currently, all dogs that are showing signs of illness are being treated.”
Animal adoptions are still open at the shelter, but no meet-and-greets with other dogs from potential adopting households will be allowed in order to minimize the potential spread of the illness.
