LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is calling on community members to honor the 2,977 lives lost by taking part in the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Following a severe summer blood shortage that critically depleted national reserves, officials are asking residents to schedule blood donations to sustain hospital supplies.
In Southern Nevada, donors provided 16,687 units of blood across 709 drives in 2025, with another 12,463 units collected across 540 drives through August 2026.

The organization is also encouraging community members to join its volunteer ranks, which comprise over 90% of its workforce.
Locally, volunteers have responded to more than 1,800 home fires, aided over 8,100 residents since 2020, and installed thousands of free smoke alarms.
