LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County School District trustees will discuss a five-year plan at Thursday night’s board meeting. That plan outlines what the district wants to achieve by 2031.
CCSD is aiming for big gains in reading and math. Specifically the district wants a 50% increase in literacy and math proficiency for third through eighth graders.
Also by 2031, CCSD wants to see 60% of its graduates earn the College and Career Ready Diploma, which has rigorous requirements like a 3.25 GPA and certain advanced placement courses.
Safety is a big-ticket item as well. By the end of this five-year plan, CCSD wants 95% of its students reporting they feel safe at school.
The plan also addresses parent and teacher concerns. It calls for 90% of parents and guardians reporting effective and useful communication from their kids’ schools and the district itself. That metric will be measured by a new question on a survey.
CCSD also wants to keep staff retention rates high. Currently, that rate is above 95%. One of the goals of this plan is to stay above that number.
The district also has a more nebulous goal for educators, which has to do with a survey they fill out every other year. It measures how they perceive their work environment, like if they feel supported by CCSD and recognized for their work. Last year, about two-thirds of middle and high school staff had positive responses to those questions, as did about three-in-four elementary school staff. CCSD wants to bump those numbers up by about 10% each by 2031.
