LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Raiders have their starting quarterback as the NFL season kicks off next week.
On Wednesday, the team officially named Kirk Cousins as their Week 1 starting quarterback, choosing him over fan favorite Fernando Mendoza, who was recently selected in the 2026 draft, and Aidan O’Connell.
Cousins sign with the Raiders back in April, marking his 15th NFL season. He made two preseason appearances, completing 76.5 percent of his passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, according to the team.
“He played really good football,” Kubiak said. “I’m really happy with all three of our quarterbacks. Kirk’s had a really good offseason, very good camp and he’s earned it.”

The Raiders quick off their season at home against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 13.
