LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Eight people experiencing homelessness are the first graduates of a new Las Vegas community court program.
The specialty court is part of Las Vegas Municipal Court and is designed to address the issues that can lead to low-level offenses and repeat court appearances.
The program connects participants with permanent housing, mental health and addiction services, job assistance and other support.
Graduate Tiffany Taylor said the experience has been positive.
“Graduating, it’s such a fulfilling, rewarding feeling and experience,” Taylor said. “As I said earlier, coming into the program, I didn’t have the answers, and I’ve never not had the answers. And so just to be looked at as a human and not my actions or what I’ve done. Now when I wake up, I look forward to what the day holds. I look forward to what the future brings.”
The city says the goal is to help people achieve long-term stability.
