LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Only in Las Vegas do you raise money with a race that lasts just the length of a parking lot.
The performing arts theater Monday’s Dark hosted not a 5K run, but a .0005K “run” Saturday.
Executive Director Mark Shunock said he was tired of traditional 5Ks and wanted the easiest run anyone would ever run. Sponsors helped turn the venue’s parking lot into a joke “marathon,” with racers in costumes, funny training stories, tacos, hot dogs, ice cream and free beer at the finish line.
Every penny raised goes to Monday’s Dark, which writes $10,000 checks to different local nonprofits every other Monday and is closing in on $3 million raised.

“I’ve been invited to so many 5Ks that I was like, let’s just do an easy 5K. Metal Blade, one of our sponsors, came up with the idea to do a .0005K. It’s the length of our parking lot. It’s the easiest run you’ll ever run, and it’s been a wild afternoon,” Shunock said.
Shunock said Monday’s Dark now partners with 21 nonprofits a year, cutting $10,000 checks from events like this one.
He called events like this one “the home stretch” into their big December anniversary show, and said they are not going anywhere as long as Las Vegas keeps showing up for a good cause and a good laugh.
