LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Officer Austin Zade Abdelnabi was laid to rest Saturday in Greer, South Carolina, surrounded by family, friends, fellow Marines, law enforcement officers and community members.
Abdelnabi, a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer, died in the line of duty Aug. 4 after a masked gunman ambushed him following a 911 call near Tropicana and Mountain Vista.
Agencies, community partners assist with funeral
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the support shown to the Abdelnabi family and the LVMPD family throughout the process has been extraordinary. The department extended gratitude to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Troopers Association Caisson Unit, and multiple law enforcement agencies, organizations, businesses and South Carolina community partners who helped make the funeral possible.
Members of the LVMPD Honor Guard traveled to South Carolina to stand alongside Abdelnabi’s family and assist in honoring him.
LVMPD thanked everyone who donated, volunteered, stood along the procession route, offered prayers or attended, saying their kindness and support will not be forgotten.
Abdelnabi died while serving the community, according to LVMPD, which said he will be remembered as forever part of the LVMPD family.
