LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Michael Mack, founder and president of Max Pawn Luxury and a former Las Vegas City Councilman, has died.

Max Pawn announced Mack’s death on Instagram, describing him as a fourth-generation pawnbroker who built Max Pawn Luxury into a thriving business.

“Michael was a fourth-generation pawnbroker who built Max Pawn Luxury into a thriving business,” the company said in a statement. “He had a unique passion and expertise for the luxury pawn business and was committed to his customers, his family, and to the Las Vegas community. His warmth, philanthropy, and generosity will be well-remembered and greatly missed.”

Mack served as a Las Vegas City Councilman from 1999 until 2004, a time of tremendous growth for the valley. He was elected for four years and appointed for two additional years. In 2009, Mack founded Max Pawn, a pawn store focused on luxury items.

Mack was also a noted philanthropist, lending his time and talent to numerous community organizations, including Make-A-Wish, Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, Noah’s Animal House, and Ronald McDonald House.
